NEWRAD 2005 9th International Conference on New Developments and Applications in Optical Radiometry October 17 - 19, 2005

Important note for Presentations:
Posters should have a maximum size of A0 (Height = 120 cm, Width = 90 cm). Poster boards will post the corresponding poster number found on the Scientific program. Posters should be put-up Monday morning after registration, and during the morning coffee-break. Poster sessions will be held during lunch-breaks. Poster sessions 1 to 3 will be held on Monday, sessions 4 to 6 on Tuesday, sessions 7 to 9 on Wednesday. Poster authors are expected to be close to their posters during the respective poster sessions.

Oral presentations should be 15 minutes in length, with a 5 minute discussion and question time. Presentations can be done using a projector (suggested format powerpoint), or with overhead slides. A computer running Windows will be used for the projector-based presentations; authors should bring their presentations either on USB sticks or with a CD. In case of specific requirements an ftp-server can be made available for those who wish to send their presentations beforehand. Inquiries should be sent to newrad@pmodwrc.ch. Presentations will be collected before each session or the day before and installed on the main computer; details will be announced during the conference. There is no need for authors to bring their own PC!

This is the ninth in the series of international radiometry conferences under the title of NEWRAD and will be hosted by the Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos (PMOD/WRC), Switzerland, from October 17 to 19, 2005. This conference brings together people interested in optical radiation measurements, from the UV to the IR.

The NEWRAD conference follows the 10^th international pyrheliometer comparison IPC-X, September 26 to October 14. The 6^th UVNet workshop will be held in connection with the NEWRAD conference on October 20 and 21, 2005.

The conference will be held at the Kongresszentrum Davos, Promenade 92, in Davos Platz. Frequent public transport between the Conference centre and the hotels is available from 6:00 to 23:30 which is free to hotel guests. Consider that walking distances in Davos are short, and any location downtown can be reached within less than a 30-minute walk.

The registration fee is 480 CHF (Swiss Francs) per person and comprises an opening reception on Sunday, October 16, 2005, coffee breaks and a lunch box during the conference, a dinner on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, an abstract book, and one copy of the NEWRAD2005 special edition published by Metrologia. The abstract book will be available at the beginning of the conference, while the Metrologia special edition will be sent to each participant in the course of 2006. In order for your name to appear on the preliminary participants list, registration must be received before June 27, 2005. The deadline for paying the registration fee is August 31, 2005. Cancellations must be requested in writing by September 30, 2005 and will entail a fee of 50 CHF; no refunds will be made after this date. There will be no on-site registration.
Registration can be done online using the online form, or via fax using the provided registration form.

Abstracts of maximum 2 pages including graphics should be submitted by June 27, 2005.. Please use the provided Microsoft WORD template when submitting your contribution. Please submit your abstract electronically as an e-mail attachment to the following address: newrad@pmodwrc.ch, including in the subject field your name, affiliation, e-mail address, and preference for oral/poster presentation. Note: No copy-editing will be performed on the submitted documents; they will be included as-is in the conference proceedings.

A Metrologia special edition containing a selected number of contributions from the NEWARD 2005 conference will be published in 2006. This Metrologia special edition will contain about 30 contributions; authors will be selected by the Scientific Committee based on the quality of the submitted abstracts.
Note: Submitted manuscripts will be subjected to peer-review before being accepted for publication in Metrologia.

An opening reception will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2005 in the foyer Aspen of the Conference Centre, first floor, starting at 17:30. An evening dinner has been reserved at the Schatzalp restaurant, about 300 m above Davos, for Tuesday, October 18, 2005. The restaurant is reachable by cable-car (free of charge) and should provide (weather permitting) a wonderful view of Davos and the surrounding country-side. Accompanying persons will be able to purchase a voucher for the evening dinner at the conference.
As part of the UVNet workshop, which will be held right after the NEWRAD conference, two excursions will be organised on Friday, October 21, 2005: In the morning the facilities of PMOD/WRC will be visited, and in the afternoon a visit to the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research Davos (SLF) is planned. To organise the afternoon tour to the SLF we need to have an estimate on the number of interested participants: For those interested we would therefore kindy request to select the appropriate option during the registration process.

The conference will be held in Davos, a famous tourist resort in the Swiss alps, at 1580 m.a.s.l. (www.davos.ch). The nearest international airport is Zürich, located approximately 3 hours from Davos. The recommended transport between Zürich airport and Davos is by train, which runs every hour (http://www.sbb.ch)
Temperatures in Davos in October can become chilly, especially in the evenings; please do not forget to bring some warm clothes.
