15 - 20 March 2004 / Davos / Switzerland

For the last 32 years, the Swiss Society of Astrophysics & Astronomy has organized its "Saas-Fee Advanced Lectures'' which have been continuously sponsored by the Swiss Academy of Sciences. The 34th Saas-Fee course, on "The Sun, Solar Analogs and the Climate'', will be held in Davos in the Swiss Alps.
The course is intended mainly for post-graduate students, astronomers and physicists who wish to increase their knowledge in the field. The lectures are given by three outstanding experts in the field.

The lecturers of the 34th course are Mike LOCKWOOD (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Chilton, United Kingdom), Mark GIAMPAPA (National Solar Observatory, Tucson, USA ) and Joanna HAIGH (Imperial College, London, United Kingdom). Each lecturer will give 9 lectures.
A preliminary list of the lectures is available here.
The course lectures will be published in the Springer "Saas Fee Advanced Course Lecture Note Series". The proceedings book containing the full manuscripts will be sent to all participants as soon as available, free of charge.

A tradition of the course was that all participants were accommodated in the same hotel and had meals together in order to increase the exchanges between the participants and the lecturers. It will not be possible to accommodate all the participants in the same hotel in Davos, but all participants will have dinner together in the Kongresshotel located next to the Congress Center.
Hotel reservations should be made using the hotel reservation form (in PDF format) in order to benefit from the special conference rate.
Prices include breakfast. (Note that the dinners from Monday to Friday are covered by the conference registration fees.)
There is a possibility to share double or quadruple rooms with other participants in order to reduce the accomodation costs. The number of those rooms are limited, so be aware that here too, the "first come first served'' rule holds!

The resort of Davos offers best opportunities to practice downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, sledging, etc…
More information on the resort can be found on the Davos web-site.
We hope to obtain a discount on the cable car afternoon cards for the participants.

By train:
If you come by train you will find the timetables and fees on the SBB-website. (Type in "Davos Dorf " or "Davos Platz" as your Destination)
You can enter major European cities as departure station to get direct connections from abroad.

By plane:
The nearest airport is Zürich. Trains depart hourly from the airport railway station (to be entered as "Zurich airport" in the SBB train timetable) in Zürich to Landquart and then Davos.

By car:
If you come from Zürich by car you will have to take the highway to Chur. Before you reach Chur you have to get off to Landquart. From there follow the signs leading you all the way up to Davos.

Bus to the hotel:
Most hotels can organize to pick you up at the train station. There are also numerous buses driving through the resort and the use of taxis is therefore not recommended.
