We have had a calibration campaign @PmodWrc for the past week. This is the Regional Brewer Calibration Center for Europe. 6 institutes from 6 countries and perfect @DavosKlosters blue skies. These instruments are measuring key climate parameters - total ozone column.
It’s only Monday but we’re thinking about the weekend for #SolarOrbiter's next #VenusFlyby! 🛰🟠⤴️
Close approach on 4 Sept is ~01:26UTC at an altitude of ~6420km to adjust its orbit around the Sun; subsequent flybys will raise inclination to see more of the Sun's polar regions.
@EuiTelescope Many solar activity secrets lie hidden at the Sun's poles. This tantalizing view of the Sun’s south pole on 30 March is a hint of what’s to come. #SolarOrbiter will use Venus gravity to crank up its orbit inclination for a more top-down viewpoint

The new series of Precision Filter Radiometers (PFR19) is complete - these are used for long term aerosol optical depth measurements. Some for @PmodWrc, some for @meteoschweiz. Looking good!
It's really happening! Our first science close perihelion! Wow! And the data quality is looking' oh so good. https://twitter.com/ESASolarOrbiter/status/1507300005434077185

We're one day ahead of our close perihelion pass of the Sun! We expect to share a first look within a couple of weeks given it will take some time to download and analyse. In the meantime, here's more about our closest camera to the #Sun👉 https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Solar_Orbiter/The_closest_camera_to_the_Sun
